Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disorders encountered in clinical practice, yet its impact extends far beyond the skin. In this episode Dr Theron and Dr Visser explores the latest evidence-based approaches to acne management, from updated classification and pathophysiology to modern topical and systemic treatment strategies. Emphasis is placed on tailoring therapy to patient phenotype, severity, skin type, and psychosocial burden, with practical tips for managing special populations and treatment-resistant cases.
You will learn to:
- Describe the current understanding of acne pathophysiology, including the role of inflammation in early lesion development.
- Identify evidence-based topical and systemic therapies for mild, moderate, and severe acne.
- Apply phenotype-driven treatment selection to improve patient outcomes.
- Recognise the psychosocial impact of acne and integrate this into management decisions.
- Discuss special considerations for acne management in skin of colour and female patients of reproductive age.
