SA Geriatrics Society Masterclass Series
The SA Geriatrics Society (SAGS) is proud to present the Masterclass Webinar Series: Mastering the Geriatric Giants, an educational initiative designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to address the most pressing challenges in geriatric medicine.

Spanning 2025 and 2026, this series delves into the six “geriatric giants”—Iatrogenesis, Incontinence, Impaired Cognition, Instability, Immobility & Frailty, and Failing Sensors. Each webinar will feature expert insights, evidence-based practices, and practical strategies for managing these complex conditions in older adults. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and actionable guidance, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to enhance care, promote quality of life, and support healthy aging in diverse clinical settings.
Join us for this transformative series to master the art and science of geriatric care.

Iatrogenesis – First do no harm: Reducing iatrogenesis and enhancing disease prevention
Iatrogenesis describes any adverse outcome or injury, usually unintentional, that occurs as a result of medical care. Iatrogenesis is particularly relevant in the older population, which is more likely to have multimorbidity and, therefore, polypharmacy with an increased risk of adverse drug events (ADEs).

Managing incontinence, skin conditions and pressure care in older persons
This session will cover the clinical management of urinary and faecal incontinence, including differentiation of urinary incontinence types through clinical assessment and investigations, and management strategies for faecal incontinence.
The second talk will address identifying and managing common skin conditions in older adults. The final talk will focus on a common clinical issue that significantly impacts patients' quality of life, with an emphasis on prevention and management.
